The India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which came into effect on 15 July 2026, is being viewed as a landmark moment in the economic relationship between the two countries. Under the deal, both nations have agreed to eliminate or significantly cut import duties on 99% of traded goods, directly affecting the pricing of British scotch whisky, luxury cars (Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Aston Martin), and premium beauty and lifestyle products.

Commenting on the development, Talent Compliance India co-founder and director Sunil Kumar Shrivastava said the deal stands to benefit ordinary citizens, employees and businesses alike. He explained that employees working across both countries previously had to contribute to social security in both jurisdictions, but under the new agreement, their contribution will now be required in only one country — India — a significant relief for the workforce.

Shrivastava also noted that the cut in import duty from 75% to 40% opens up new business opportunities for companies operating in India, particularly in sectors like textiles and automobile components. Speaking about the company's own role, he said Talent Compliance India supports organisations with workforce management, payroll and post-payroll compliance, and is also working to protect workers' rights through its recently launched Bharat Shram Setu platform.

On-ground reactions were mixed — while one section of the public is enthusiastic about cheaper imported goods and new employment opportunities, small and medium businesses have voiced concern over rising competition for domestic products.
